Spiritual Direction Philosophy

Linnea provides sacred time and space for you to explore what is most meaningful in your life and work. You will experience deep listening and prompts to explore your inner world as I guide you to connect to the Mystery of life.

Please use my scheduler for a free first session. It’s important to me that we both feel comfortable in this holy relationship.

Seekers come to spiritual direction/companionship to find peace, deepen spiritual practices, explore who or whatever you find as greater than yourself. Most directees meet with me monthly–some twice a month–for a year or more. Some directees have been working with me since I began practicing in 2020. Others have joined for the time they are in:

  • UU Wellspring,
  • in transition,
  • simply curious,
  • feeling spiritually adrift, or
  • need sustenance in these challenging times.

You will bring specific challenges at times and great joy at others. Just bring your whole self, whatever you are experiencing and whatever you believe. My role as a spiritual director is to offer you sacred space to connect to the divine within and beyond yourself. You choose the words that are meaningful to you, such as: spirit, God, Goddess, Mystery, Source, collective unconscious, or the Great Beyond. I will honor your unique sacred journey and the words that are meaningful to you.

My primary strategy is gentle questioning derived from deep listening to your sacred story. I also offer guided meditation and blessings in the moment that are individualized to what you bring forward.

I welcome those with ethnic, racial, gender, religious beliefs and ages different from my own. I have successfully companioned a wide variety of identities and roles. My primary clients are ministers, religious educators, seminarians, intern ministers, and lay leaders. I also see individuals who are seeking, not rooted in a particular religion, or do not have a home or worship or peace.

I have deep experience or coursework in each of the following areas (but not formal certification) so and I offer strategies related to:

  • Enneagram
  • Internal Family Systems
  • Dream Work
  • Jungian Philosophy
  • Spiritual Development
  • Family Dynamics
  • Child and Teen Development
  • Soul Collage (and other expressive arts)
  • Transitions

Want to know more about me?
Professionally: I serve on the UUA Religious Educators Credentialing Committee and in the past I have served on the Membership Committee of UUSDN. I was the Executive Director of UU Wellspring for seven years and I was a school administrator for almost ten years working in the area of special needs. I was an international facilitator for the Great Books Foundation and I have presented numerous times at the UUA General Assembly. I served as the President and Vice-President of LREDA. I teach a class most summers at Chautauqua Institution on Spiritual Practices and sometimes teach or edit materials for the UUA religious education programs.

Personally: My husband and I are both active lay leaders at the First Unitarian Church of Orlando (FL). I was the worship chair for five years and my husband has served as the treasurer. We have two young adult sons (and one daugher-in-law) who live in Virginia and Atlanta. They were both raised at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax (VA), where we were an active UU family.

We love our little dog and we are blessed with extended family (with a very active text chain!) and many deep friendships in Florida and around the world. I have lived in Australia, Indonesia, Jamaica, Germany, and Colombia as well as lived in six states. I love people. I’ve been in a book group all of my adult life, I enjoy walking and hiking, camping, and exploring cities…especially the arts. I’ve been painting steadily for two years and writing essays, poetry or books most of my life.

Please see my website, Twinflower Press for the books that I have published, (or that I have essays and poems included). You’ll also find some testimonials and my not-very-often posted blog. I welcome those who would like to incorporate writing or art into their spiritual practices.

This brief video is also an introduction to my spiritual direction practice.

Please use my scheduler for a free first session to sample spiritual direction with me!
