SUMMARY:Worth\, Cost\, and Calling: Financial Clarity for Spiritual Directors (session 1: Uncovering your money story)
DESCRIPTION:(session 1 of 3) We begin with reflective\, spiritually grounded work. Participants will explore the formative experiences—familial\, cultural\, and religious—that shaped their current beliefs and behavior around money\, worth\, and ministry. Through guided journaling and small-group sharing\, we’ll explore the formative experiences and unspoken assumptions that often lead to undercharging or over-giving. You’ll leave with clarity around the core values that will guide your pricing\, not as a number\, but as an expression of your personal integrity. \n  \nThis three-session virtual workshop series helps spiritual directors and other fee-based care providers align their fees with their values. Participants uncover their own money stories\, calculate the true costs of their practice\, and explore the reality of what financial accessibility might mean\, without apology. Participants will leave the course with practical tools and the language to hold both worth and generosity with spiritual integrity. Led by Rev. Sara Green and Rachel Maxwell\, and hosted by Rev. Tandi Rogers. \n

SUMMARY:UU Spiritual Direction Book Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Embracing Hope: On Freedom\, Responsibility & the Meaning of Life \nby Viktor E. Frankl (2024) \nAt the turn of the calendar year\, we engage profound questions of meaning\, freedom\, responsibility\, and hope. Frankl’s reflections emerge from both suffering and deep spiritual insight. Rather than offering easy optimism\, this book asks what it means to live purposefully and humanely in difficult times. \n~~~~~~~~ \nThis year’s Spiritual Directors’ Book Circle is an invitation into the 3 C’s: conversation\, contemplation\, and companionship. Together we will read across poetry\, prophecy\, contemplation\, activism\, Indigenous wisdom\, creativity\, queer theology\, and spiritual resilience. Some books may feel like balm. Some may unsettle us. Some may give language to experiences we have carried wordlessly for years. \nAs spiritual directors\, we spend much of our lives listening deeply to the lives and questions of others. This circle is an opportunity to tend our own inner lives and vocational imagination. To notice what stirs. What resists. What nourishes. What calls us further toward courage\, compassion\, liberation\, and wonder. \nOur hope is that this year forms not only a reading group\, but a circle of practice and a network of practitioners. \nHosted by Meadville Lombard Theological School’s LIGHT.

SUMMARY:Worth\, Cost\, and Calling: Financial Clarity for Spiritual Directors (session 2: The true cost of spiritual direction)
DESCRIPTION:(Session 2 of 3) Many spiritual directors have never calculated what it actually costs to offer this work sustainably. In this session\, we move from story to numbers—without losing the soul. You’ll learn to distinguish fixed costs (platform fees and professional memberships)\, variable costs (marketing\, continuing ed)\, and hidden costs (emotional labor\, preparation time\, unpaid admin). Together\, you’ll discern your financial needs from your practice\, not from greed but from faithfulness to your own calling and your real needs. \nThis three-session virtual workshop series helps spiritual directors and other fee-based care providers align their fees with their values. SUMMARY:Worth\, Cost\, and Calling: Financial Clarity for Spiritual Directors (session 3: Accessibility without apology)
DESCRIPTION:(Session 3 of 3) How do you offer sliding scales\, scholarships\, or reduced-fee spots without resenting them? How do you say no to a client who can’t pay\, and still act with compassion? This session tackles the practical and spiritual tensions of financial accessibility for a small business. You’ll explore models (community-funded spots\, income-based sliding scales\, barter) and leave with rituals for fee conversations\, decision-making frameworks\, and language to hold both your worth and your generosity. \nThis three-session virtual workshop series helps spiritual directors and other fee-based care providers align their fees with their values.
