Spiritual Direction Philosophy

Spiritual direction is soul-tending. As a spiritual companion, I offer a listening presence and gentle guidance as you see to discern the stirrings of the spirit in your life, to grow in self-knowledge and self-acceptance, and to become the person you truly are. Our work often seems to focus on centering in the place of spiritual calling where, as Frederick Buechner puts it “your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

Among those I have companioned in their spiritual journeys are seasoned ministers and seminary students, BIPOC and white, LGBTQ and straight, UU laypeople and non-UUs, Christians, Humanists, athiests, and mystics, as well as many still trying to figure it out. As people share from their life and perspective, my life is enriched.

Please refer to my website, www.sarahyork.com, for current information on fees and blog posts for spiritual direction
