Spiritual Direction Philosophy

Over the years, I have gained extensive experience providing spiritual care to seekers, doubters, and believers alike. My contemplative approach is profoundly influenced by insights from the Desert Elders and other wise mystics from various religious traditions.

Since my ordination 20 years ago, I have worked in congregational as well as community ministry. From 2022-2025, I served as Community Minister for Spiritual Direction at Arlington Street Church in Boston; during that time, I was also convener of the Greater Boston chapter of Spiritual Directors International (SDI). In 2023, I was invited to be a presenter at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, speaking to a global audience about feminist spiritual direction with women.

Wisdom from Judaism, Christianity, Taoism, Vedanta, Buddhism, Sufism, and American Transcendentalist thought are all illuminating for me. I have a personal affinity for those from multifaith backgrounds, being interspiritual myself. These days, I feel a particular call to offer helping professionals spiritual support and can offer a special focus on the work of moral injury and moral repair.

In addition to serving as a spiritual director, I am an Interim Religious Professional, yoga instructor, certified pastoral counselor, community minister, psychotherapist, and educator. I am currently an instructor and mentor in the Apprenticeship Program at the Phoenix Center for Spiritual Direction, as well as a book reviewer for Presence, the scholarly journal of  SDI. I act as a supervisor for practicing spiritual directors. I am also Co-Chair of the Spirituality & Flourishing group in the Harvard Flourishing Network.

“Wisdom is so kind and wise that wherever you may look,” Catherine of Siena said, “you can learn something about God.” I deeply believe that both wisdom and kindness are central to the spiritual life. Perhaps you do, too. Together we can watch for what the Sacred/Eternal/Divine has to teach us, with eyes wide open…
